I was shopping for a new steam iron since I had dropped my old one and destroyed it. In my research, I found that Consumer Reports Magazine listed the Black and Decker D2030 as the top Consumer Reports Best Buy. Since the price was very reasonable, I decided to purchase one. Amazon actually had the best price, so I bought it. I am blown away by how this iron makes the job so much easier and faster than any other iron I've ever seen. I was able to iron things in a fraction of the time that it used to take. It got rid of wrinkles with just one swipe, even on linen. I finally realized that the main reason it works so well is the huge amount of steam it puts out. The steam control is separate from the temperature control. So even on a low heat, you can make it produce huge amounts of steam. The digital readout makes it so much easier to know what is going on. When it needs cleaning, it will tell you so on the little LCD screen. The cleaning process itself is fast and easy. Any lint or mineral deposit that are clogging steam vents are blown out with the huge bursts of steam from the iron. The iron's features are all designed to help make the tedious job of ironing into a fast, enjoyable task. That's strange -- to call ironing enjoyable -- but it actually is with this iron.

With over 1,000 reviews already posted for this iron, I'm sure there's nothing I can add regarding features and performance that hasn't already been said. Rather, I am posting this comment to praise the manufacturer's customer care, which should be of interest to anyone thinking of purchasing this or any other Black & Decker iron.
I had been using my Black & Decker D2030 iron weekly for a number of years (I'm not sure how long because I can no longer locate the receipt) without any major issues when suddenly yesterday it began to malfunction. The iron would seemingly turn off for no apparent reason and when it resumed would indicate that it needed cleaning. This continued to happen even after I had put it through the cleaning process several times. I could not isolate any short in the external cord, so I presume there was a fault in the digital circuitry. I called B&D Product Warranty Service (1-800-231-9786), and to my surprise and delight they immediately offered to send me a newer replacement iron, model D5000, at no cost. I will review the D5000 in the future, but in the meantime, I think my experience is reason enough to purchase Black & Decker irons with confidence that the manufacturer will stand by their product.
Customer Review: Ideal iron for a guy who hates to iron. Summary: 5 Stars
I hate to iron. I used to take my shirts to the cleaners, but that got to be more of an expense than I wanted to bear. This iron has a really long cord - in fact, I'm going to get a tape measure and measure it so I can tell you exactly (I wouldn't go by what the manufacturer says as in my experience manufacturer's descriptions aren't always accurate) - it's ten feet long! (Took me longer to measure than I anticipated, because my cat thought I was playing with her :-) That's a good length and as an added plus the cord is thick and on the heavy duty side.
The digital readout makes setting it a snap (and the water level can be seen at a glance), and it reaches the correct temperature quickly and beeps to let you know when it's ready. Then comes the part I hate, but because this iron is handsome, easy to set, and has that long (10'!), sturdy cord (the length of the cord facilitates maneuvering around the ironing board), the actual ironing part isn't nearly as bad as it could be. I don't have enough experience with irons to know if all irons glide smoothly and effortlessly across whatever material is being ironed, but this one glides along as smoothly and effortlessly as a wireless laser mouse.
Customer Review: Twice as Good as the Rowenta and at Half the Price Summary: 5 Stars
I'm writing this as a proxy for my wife. She's so thrilled with the B&D D2030 that she's looking for stuff to iron!
I bought this for her as a replacement for her 3 year old Rowenta DX-8800 (or a model very similar) which she liked for a month or so, but started complaining about the plate being too hot. More recently, she's been complaining about the lack of steam and shot of steam. That iron cost $100.
The B&D was $50.28 and she's close to ecstatic with the results. She's especially happy with the way it irons wrinkles out of linen and even her Levi's jacket and jeans. She could care less about the display, but since she/I didn't have to pay more for it, then why not?
A footnote: We've had 30 years' experience with B&D, and I can't say that I've been terribly happy with them. Invariably, they've sent me to their repair center which isn't far from here, but on a new item, how about a no-charge return? On the other hand, Rowenta has been fantastic, even sending free lithium batteries for one of their scales when I couldn't find them locally. So I wouldn't give up on Rowenta though I do think their products are (initially) overpriced.
Customer Review: ACTUALLY ENJOY IRONING NOW Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered the Black and Decker Digital Iron only after reading numerous reviews about it and also relying on the great review it had by Consumer Reports. Despite being a little leary about some comments of water leakage, I ordered it and absolutely LOVE it. It is not the lightest iron, but its weight gives stability. The STEAM release is OUTSTANDING and, although I like a little spray starch on my husband's shirts for a crisp look, it doesn't seem necessary now. The digital read is GREAT and I am a lot less apt to singe silk now with all the special levels for fabric choices and the beep that tells you when the specific setting is ready which doesn't take long at all. Since we have well water, I am using distilled water in my iron so as not to clog or affect any internal works with any elements that probably are in my well water. I have only had my iron a month and have used it weekly with pleasure(ironic for someone who hates ironing!)The only thing that disturbs me is that I read that this model has been discontinued and I wonder why as it is soooooo good. Nevertheless, I was glad to find it available at [...]and at a GREAT price! No more bringing the shirts to the cleaners to be pressed.
