Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron

Customer Review: B & D has done a great job with this iron
Summary: 5 Stars

When the teflon coating started to peel off the plate of my Sunbeam iron, I decided to buy a new one and wanted to find one that had great steam operation. Consumer Reports gave this iron very high marks so I bought it from Amazon. This iron is light years ahead of most other irons. Only the Rowenta seems in the same league and it costs much more money. It has audible signals that tell you when it has reached the temperature for the fabric you are ironing. A large digital readout tells you the fabric and number of the setting. It reaches temperature very quickly...and here's the best part. The cotton setting irons cotton perfectly. The linen setting irons linen perfectly. On irons I've owned in the past, I would set it on maximum temperature for almost everything (accept meltables) and even then I'd have to pass over and over the fabric to get it smooth. I hate ironing, but after my first use of this iron, I was looking around to find anything I could find that needed ironing. I even ironed a king sized sheet!!!! It holds a lot of water and the steam operation is excellent. I was so impressed I sent out an e mail to every woman I know telling them about it. Very highly recommended.

Customer Review: Great Iron but alas it burned!!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this iron two weeks ago and while it worked it performed miraculously. I decided to go with this model after carefully reading all the reviews here on Amazon and checking the Consumer Reports website. This Iron was the highest rated model so I decided to buy it with full confidence. However, one day I plugged it in and after a minute I saw smoke coming out of the Iron. At first I thought something was stuck on the bottom of the sole plate. After observing where the smoke was coming from I realized it was from inside the iron and the smoke smelled like burning electric wires. At this point I unplugged the iron and after it cooled off I plugged it in again to see if it would work (I realize I should not have done that!!). Well, nothing happened, the iron simply stopped working, it would just get warm but never hot and the steam function stopped working. Needless to say I was greatly disappointed, I rushed to the phone and called Black and Decker consumer support. They were very courteous and helpful and told me they would send a replacement in a week. Unfortunately, they did not have the same model in stock so they sent me the Black & Decker D2020-

Customer Review: Best I've owned so far...UPDATED!
Summary: 4 Stars

6/9/10: I purchased this Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron from BBB over 3 years ago. At that time, I paid less than $50 for it. This has been, by far, the best iron I've owned in my 40+ years. I actually like heavy irons, they just seem like they do a better job on heavier fabrics. This iron is not too heavy but enough to feel like it's doing it's job. The spray and steam features work great. Every so often it tends to drip but I believe that may be because if the water fill is maxed and the top is not completely closed, the back and forth motion of the iron splashes a little water out of the top. I actually just discovered this 2 weeks ago. Otherwise, with the hopes of not jinxing myself, this iron continues to be an excellent choice.

UPDATE-7/18/10: Obviously I jinxed myself. My iron died yesterday. The digital panel suddenly started flickering and fading, while the iron was turning off & on. Thought it may have something to do with the electrical cord but wiggling it did nothing. Within 2 minutes, my once best iron, departed. Now I have to do the grueling task of researching for a GOOD new one..ugh!

Customer Review: Steam died after nine months.....but B&D sent me an updated model for $7.95 shipping
Summary: 3 Stars

I used this iron every week to iron about 30-40 pieces of clothes (so I used it alot). I loved this iron. It heats up quickly, is heavy enough to get the wrinkles out of my clothes (an iron has to be somewhat heavy to do a good job without alot of effort), and had great steam. The steam function just quit on my iron after 9 months. Thankfully, the iron was still under warranty and Black and Decker sent me a new one (just had to pay for shipping). You have to cut off the old cord and mail it to them and they will send you a new one (hubby just spliced an old cord onto my iron so that I could use it until the new one came; it didn't have steam but still heated up). The new one has a nonstick plate and I'm hoping is a bit of an improvement technologically. But if the steam dies again, they will just send me another one (this new one is covered under a one year warranty also). Well worth the money spent and I'm loving my new one. Just be aware that the steam may die on you (e.g. keep your receipts). Enjoy the iron though; it is awesome! Black and Decker's customer service was great (make sure you ask for a similar model when you call).

Customer Review: High quality iron, good value
Summary: 4 Stars

This little baby has performed well for me for several years. It was rated well by a "leading consumer magazine" and so although I was hesitant about spending more than twenty smackers on an iron and was especially hesitant about buying a fancy one with an electronic control that could fail I did it anyway.

I'm glad I did, it's a high quality iron that heats up fast, steams and sprays well, glides smoothly, is easy to clean, is heavy but not too heavy, has a comfortable grip, is fairly stable standing upright. I don't htink I've dropped it but it is made a much tougher than a ten buck iron.

My only complaints are the cord is ten feet--it sounds like a lot but it's not and just a couple of extra feet would be handy. Cord storage is okay, it will wrap around and stay but I'm always worried that it will slip and break the water reservoir lid and you have to be careful to distribute the bulk underneath so it sits well.

So overall it's not perfect but it irons well. I would give it 4 1/2 if I could. I am pleased to be reviewer number one thousand of this product. Highly recommended.
