Customer Review: Excellent iron so far...

I purchased this iron on the strength of it's reviews. I suppose, based upon the past feedback that we should be posting 1 year follow-ups, as the half-life of most irons appears to be "built in" to some extent.
For now, I can say that the heft of the unit inspires confidence as well as providing the practical weight needed for efficient pressing. The water reservoir is sufficient for generating copious amounts of steam and providing the extra "burst" as needed when ironing collars or seams (you should know you get a visceral sense of "lift" when you depress that button...this is a powerful steam reserve for a hand-held unit).
I know rowenta provides a special cleaning solution, and to the degree a proprietary solution is necessary, I wish iron makers would begin including a bit with the purchase of the iron, for testing. I use spray starch to press creases in shirts and believe it accumulates on the surface.
The digital settings provide something else to go wrong over time, and probably do not add a critical advantage, but they are convenient to use in dialing in this beast.

I HAVE ALWAYS PURCHASED GERMAN MADE IRONERS BEFORE, AFTER MY EXPENSIVE ROWENTA STARTED TO COME APART, I STARTED TO READ THE CONSUMER REPORT ABOUT IRONERS. I WENT TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT RETAIL OUTLET TO TRY OUT THE WEIGHT AND HANDLING OF DIFFERENT BRANDS BOTH EXPENSIVE AND LOW END IRONERS.
I DECIDED ON THE BLACK AND DECKER D2030, I ORDERED MINE FROM AMAZON SINCE IT HAS THE BEST PRICE $39.99, FREE SHIPPING AND NO SALES TAX.
I STARTED USING THE IRON IMMEDIATELY, I AM VERY PLEASE WITH THE PRODUCT, IT TAKES LESS TIME TO FINISH IRONING MY SONS SHIRTS. THIS IRONER HAS AN OUTPUT OF 1500 WATTS, GREAT HANDLING, VERY SMOOTH, GREAT STEAM I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO USE THE HIGHEST SETTING FOR STEAM, I HAVE SMALL HANDS AND THE GRIP ON THIS PRODUCT WAS VERY COMFORTABLE TO HANDLE. THE CHORD DID NOT GET IN THE WAY.THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I PURCHASED A BLACK AND DECKER IRON, I LIKE IT A LOT, HOPE THE DIGITAL LAST AS LONG AS THE IRONER, THAT WAS MY ONLY CONCERN SINCE IT HAS THE DIGITAL SCREEN.
I RATED THIS ITEM AS A GREAT PRODUCT, AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO PEOPLE WHO HAS TO STILL DO IRONING.
Customer Review: Worked Great for Four Months!

We purchased this iron after reading favorable reviews on Amazon and Consumers Report. It worked very well for four months; my wife stated that it took her half the time to do the ironing than it had taken with her Rowenta, and she truly enjoyed using the new iron.
After four months to the day, the iron stopped working. We contacted B&D Customer Service and were told to clip off three inches of cord with the plug, and send it in with our original receipt and a check for $7.50 for a replacement. The replacement iron was a model 1500, and it lacked several of the nice features of the 2030 (in addition to being $20 cheaper than the 2030). Perhaps it will prove to be more reliable but, in case it does not, we received no paperwork that would enable us to turn in the replacement unit if it should fail.
I know that the economy is tough right now, but I do not think we would ever consider another Black & Decker product after having problems with the iron, toaster oven, grass trimmer, and mini-vacuum cleaners that we have purchased from them (with uniformly bad experiences).

My rating is not for the iron which is actually a wonderful product and one of the best out there it is for Amazon's dreadful. immoral and illegal conduct. I purchased this item a week ago on the understanding that i was getting a new item and to my shock it was delivered with water in the tank. Not only is this extremely dangerous to ship an electronic appliance with water but also a clear indication that this item was either used or refurbished. A call to the help line didn't help either as I got a none english speaking rep who not only didn't even understand what an Iron is but also she cut me off when I politely asked to speak to a supervisor to have them answer why Amazon ships used items as new.
In addition the handle had scratches on it and the tags that should have been on the cord that apparently void the warranty if removed were not even with the iron. Definately looked used.-
Be very careful trading with Amazon service has gone from bad to outright immoral and illegal.
I will be refering the case to the Attorney General.

Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron
The digital controls are easy to use and steam volume control is very effective. The iron heats up quickly and maintains the temp you have selected. Water chamber fills quick and easy because it is vented and has a hinged snap-down sealing cap which prevents water spills if iron is tipped. Has a highly polished sole plate that glides easily and has lots of steam holes. Excellent performance. Makes ironing a little less bothersome.
My only complaint, there is no true power on/off switch. Iron can be shut down, but red indicator stays on telling you there still is power at the iron. Directions state "disconnect iron from electrical outlet when not in use." This can be a nuisance when the wall outlet is not conveniently located. That was my situation, so between the iron and wall outlet I installed a 15-amp power strip with a 6 foot cord and an on/off switch. Now I can switch off the iron without unplugging it.
