I was ready to give up on my 18 volt Black & Decker system, of which I have 6 tools that use is type of batteries, I could not keep the battery charged. But this charger was my answer. It chargers the batteries in a short time and with three of four battteries a head you can keep up the needs of the system.Customer Review: Does the job

Works as advertised. Also did a good job of telling me that one of my batteries had bit the dust with the fast-flash of the charging light. Good value when you compare it to replacing the simple charger that B & D included with my impact driver.Customer Review: A must have charger for B&D batteries

As stated in a previous review, chargers come in several varieties. This is considered a "smart-charger" and can accomplish both a fast charge and trickle charge. It can also tell if the batteries have a bad cell (constant fast blinking light when charging as compared to steady longer blinking lights). The standard charger the seems to come with B&D drills are cheap, can over charge and eventually reduce the usable life of the battery. Battery charging can take as little as 1 hour to longer depending on the aH rating (the higher the rating the longer the charge time). However this charger is essential in keeping and maintaining batteries. I strongly recommend this type of charger for B&D products and a similiar type of charger for any other type of cordless tools. It charged my 18V Grass Hog battery packs just fine. I like that it mounts on the wall, too, so it doesn't take up any bench space. Amazon had the best price, too!
