I'm only giving this unit a three star rating out of five because I've already had a few issues after the first use. The Grass Hog looks fairly easy to assemble, but the parts were a bit too tight to assemble without the assistance of a pair of pliers. I was a bit miffed that a cord was not included with the unit. It does include a small spool of line that is pre-installed.
This model works much better than the cordless Black & Decker trimmer I previously had, but it eats line like it's tissue paper. I really put it to the test since we have tough grass in this area and have had a lot of rain lately (so the grass grows like crazy over the edges of the drive and sidewalk). I was very disappointed at how often the line needed to be re-threaded, however. I was hoping to be able to just plug it in and edge uninterrupted. Instead, I had to unplug the unit and re-thread the line every 5 minutes. I haven't even done half of the edging in the front yard, and I'm nearly out of line on the small spool that was included with the trimmer. The areas I did edge look just great! When the line isn't catching, this thing cuts through tough grass like butter.
I would suggest purchasing a long extension cord and a few extra spools of line when you purchase this unit. It will save you some annoyance if you figure those items into the cost of the unit and have them handy before you're first use..

I recently bought this model after my previous B&D trimmer gave up the ghost. Although the previous model had occasionally failed to feed string automatically, by and large, it had worked quite well. Not so with the new model. Two strings mean less capacity and THEY DO NOT FEED. Not automatically, not reliably, mostly not at all. Check out the reviews anywhere else for ANY of the current auto feed models, they just don't work. You have no recourse but to open up the spool and feed it out by hand every time it gets too short to use. I went with the only 'bump' model left on the market and CR's second top choice. (They got it way wrong with the B&D.) Save time, try another brand, this one is not worth the money. How the mighty have fallen; it's really sad.Customer Review: Love it!

I purchased a Grasshog earlier this year as a replacement for an old electric trimmer. Out of the box it was easy to assemble and in a matter of minutes it was plugged in and running. Man, this thing is amazing! I don't have a huge yard but it certainly made light work of plowing through the weeds and grass. Used as an edger it also works great. For an inexpensive electric trimmer it's top notch. I highly recommend it!
Customer Review: DANGEROUS: Line auto advances too far, gets automatically cut, and may fly into your legs or face

My face was seriously cut (deep quarter inch gouge on my left cheek) by the excess advanced line snippet. The Black and Decker Grass Hog automatically advances the line (versus punching down on the head), however too much line is advanced and a 2-4" snippet flies off and may hit your legs or face depending on the swivel setting of the Grass Hog.
I am returning it immediately. For my health, I will never use this machine again. Please be aware of the risks of this machine.

I waited quite a while before writing a review since I have used several gas and electric trimmers and edgers over the years. I must honestly say this is, without one doubt, the very best one I have ever had. The line lasts much longer (each spool) than I predicted. I am a fanatic regarding my lawn and grass and I could not recommend a trimmer more than this!! I am trilled. No tangles, no line breaks, easy-simple-a no brainer to use. Light weight but powerful. I hope they make this one for many years because I have finally found a lightweight, powerful, and effective trimmer. I am more than a believer!
