Tools and Hardware Reviews of Black & Decker GH600 Grass Hog 14-Inch 5-AMP Electric String Trimmer and EdgerCustomer Review: The Best Yet! Summary: 5 StarsI waited quite a while before writing a review since I have used several gas and electric trimmers and edgers over the years. I must honestly say this is, without one doubt, the very best one I have ever had. The line lasts much longer (each spool) than I predicted. I am a fanatic regarding my lawn and grass and I could not recommend a trimmer more than this!! I am trilled. No tangles, no line breaks, easy-simple-a no brainer to use. Light weight but powerful. I hope they make this one for many years because I have finally found a lightweight, powerful, and effective trimmer. I am more than a believer!
Customer Review: Poor line feed Summary: 1 StarsI have owned 2 B&D trimmers over the last 4 years. I have the same automatic line feed problems everyone previously describes. I'm not sure if I will ever own another electric string trimmer since other brands don't seem to look very different. Unless there is another brand of electric trimmer/edger that someone likes, I'm looking at buying a gas powered 4 cycle trimmer. Any recommendations?
Customer Review: Great for small women or kids Summary: 4 StarsI am 5'1" so some trimmers are too big and bulky for me to use. This trimmer is not too heavy or bulky, yet it has enough power to keep on going. I love the self feeding string so I don't have to bump it on the ground. My son can also use it without any difficulty.
Customer Review: Keep your fire extinguisher handy. Summary: 1 StarsLet me first say that I bought my trimmer at a somewhat nearby B&D outlet. I picked it up refurbished for around $25 in the box to replace another B&D that we'd had for sometime and was on its last legs last fall. It lasted the whole season, so I never had to unbox this new one until a week ago. It ran great for less than fifteen minutes and I smelled smoke. I looked down and the socket where the cord meets the unit was smoking and melting! I ripped the power cord out and stood there staring at the trimmer, smoking on the ground. I couldn't believe it! I've since used the cord for various things, so it wasn't the cord. 15 minutes and it literally melted. I've JUST discovered that out of 3 in SE MI, one is around a mile away from me. I can carry it there if I wanted! ;-) I'm so disappointed in B&B as the quality of their items has plummeted in recent years (including kitchen appliances). I haven't seen this issue in any of the reviews I've read here, so I figured I would put it out there. Scary stuff.
Customer Review: Designed to Fail Summary: 1 StarsI would steer anyone away from purchasing this product if not for the complete lack of electric trimmers on the market. I have two of these trimmers in my garage right now that family and friends have given me to try to fix after they both broke within a year of purchase. Both suffer from the same problem which is that the motor has disengaged from the trimmer head. I have not taken either apart, but it seems like the shaft or cable or whatever transmits power from the motor to the head has broken. Perhaps a link or something has come loose. At any rate, neither are working at this point. In my opinion, these are not worth the investment since this problem seems to be pretty common.
My advice... unless you absolutely have to have an electric trimmer, maybe for the weight or noise level, invest a few more bucks and get a gas trimmer. You'll be much better off!
